About us.
Design 3 is an architectural design studio built on a foundation of passion, experience, and a belief in the power of transformative design. Founded by Harriet French, an architectural designer with over a decade of experience, our practice is driven by a commitment to creating spaces that enhance how people live, work, and feel.
Harriet’s journey began in the renewable energy sector, where she developed a deep understanding of sustainability and innovation. Her career evolved into large-scale residential design, shaping developments for national housebuilders, before shifting focus to bespoke architecture—where her passion for crafting unique, meaningful spaces truly came to life.
At Design 3, we believe architecture is more than just form and function—it’s a tool for improving well-being. Every project we undertake is rooted in a deep respect for context, individuality, and the potential of design to create positive, lasting change.
Whether we’re designing a home, planning a development, or transforming a commercial space, we approach each project with clarity, creativity, and purpose. Our goal is simple: to design spaces that feel as good as they look—and that work beautifully for the people who use them.
Welcome to Design 3—where every design tells a story, and every space is crafted to enrich the lives it touches.

RIBA Stage 1 - Preparation & Brief
At stage 1 we work closely with you to understand your goals, site constraints, and vision. This stage includes early research, defining the scope, identifying project risks, and setting a solid foundation for the design process.

RIBA Stage 2 - Concept Design
We begin developing creative ideas and initial layout options based on the brief. This includes outline proposals, spatial arrangements, and design strategies to explore the look, feel, and function of the space.
RIBA Stage 3 - Spatial Coordination
Your preferred concept is developed further into a more detailed design. We coordinate key architectural elements with structural and building services input, ready to submit for planning approval.

RIBA Stage 4 - Technical Design
We produce detailed technical drawings and specifications for construction. This stage ensures everything complies with regulations and is fully coordinated with consultants, ready for tender or building control submission.
RIBA Stage 5 - Manufacturing and Construction
We support the construction process on site, working alongside the contractor to ensure the design is delivered as intended. This includes responding to site queries and reviewing progress against drawings.

RIBA Stage 6 - Handover
The project is completed, and the building is handed over to you. We assist with final inspections, snagging, and post-occupancy support to ensure everything performs as expected.
